The Dresden Files (and Codex Alera, for that matter) are full of general misogyny and sexism though, which has turned me off reading anything more by Jim Butcher. You can say it's just the character, but I found it not only kinda gross now that I'm older, but also Butcher's not that great a writer. I tried to re-read recently, to decide if I wanted to keep the books, and I spent half my time mentally editing his prose. Didn't even finish the first Codex Alera because I remembered this whole big thing with rape and a sex slave collar, and decided I was tired of reading about women getting raped when it already happens far too often in the real world. Take my opinion with a grain of salt though, and I do rec Tanya Huff as well. She's most excellent.
